Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
What does it mean to follow the Lord?
In our Gospel reading today we see the amazing account of the disciples, who were most likely aware of our Lord’s teachings through the ministry of John the Baptist, drop all social and economic security in order to follow Him after a simple invitation. The first lesson we learn brothers and sisters, is that the ultimate desire of our heart is placed there by our Lord Himself. We have a “God-shaped” hole in our hearts and we are not satisfied until our hearts rest in Him.
The Christian claim is not that Jesus was a great moral teacher, good life coach or interesting personality amount the other greats of history, but that He is God who became man and showed us what being a person really means. As Christians we believe that no one finds fulfillment in the world if not through Christ. If this is false it is pure arrogance. If it is true, the only not crazy thing to do is exactly what the disciples did- drop everything and follow Him! Let’s move from craziness to holiness and respond to His invitation with the determination we see in the Gospel!
