The Holy Apostles Bartholomew and Barnabas
Apostles’ Fast

Read
Acts 11:19-30; Luke 10:16-21

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

One of the numerous titles that we use when speaking of John the Baptist is “Forerunner” because it is he who links the Old and New Testaments together with his message of repentance and expectation for the Messiah that is to come. John was one who pointed those who came to him towards the direction of Christ. However, John did not witness the fulfilment of his message concerning Christ as his life on earth ended before he could witness the crucifixion and glorious resurrection.

As missionary disciples, we too must sow the words about and of Christ in the world like John the Baptist did. We too must be messengers that deliver the good news, always pointing not to ourselves but rather to our Lord. It is possible that we too will not witness the fulfilment of our work on earth as we do not know when the seeds that we sow and the witness that we share will bear fruit. It may bear fruit immediately or it may bear fruit gradually or with delay. Whatever the case may be, we must continually point to Christ as John the Baptist did throughout his earthly ministry.
