Tenth Sunday after Pentecost, Octoechos Tone 1; Post-feast of the Dormition; Holy Martyrs Florus and Laurus (313-24)
Read
1 Corinthians 4:9-16; Matthew 17:14-23
In kneeling before the Lord, the father expressed his desire humbly to Him. He simply asked the Lord for mercy on his son. It was the one thing left that the father could do for his son – to offer a simply humble and desperate prayer before the Lord with mustard-seed sized faith.
Do you ever wish to have those whom you know cured of their illnesses and realize that there is absolutely nothing you can do? This father sets an example for us. We can be present to our loved ones, and we can offer a simple, humble, and desperate prayer: “Lord, have mercy on your servant.” We bring our mustard-seed sized faith to the Lord and let Him begin to move!
