2 Corinthians 8:16-9:5; GOSPEL – Mark 3:13-19
While it is undoubtedly a cliche phrase, today’s Gospel reading points is to “God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called.” Jesus not only calls them to follow and learn; He also gives them the power to expel demons. There were others who had better oratorical skills or knowledge of the Scriptures such as the Pharisees, Sadducees, or Scribes, yet, Jesus chooses the apostles and grants them what they need to fulfil His mission of spreading the Good News.
We, too, may desire or be asked to fulfil a particular role in our parish communities, and we, like the apostles, may be “unequipped” as far as we can see. When it comes to serving the Lord, he can and does equip us as long as we say yes and strive to pursue His truth and knowledge and understanding of Him.
