Philippians 1:8-14; Luke 5:12-16

A few years ago, an acquaintance of mine lost his wallet and could not find it for a few days. He prayed that God would help him retrace his steps and find it, and in finding it, he would immediately thank God by making an additional donation to his parish. Upon finding it an hour or so after he made this promise, he fulfilled the promise and made the donation in thanksgiving for finding his wallet.

Jesus instructs the man healed of leprosy in today’s Gospel by instructing him to make an offering for his cleansing. When God’s blessings are showered on us, our first instinct is to receive the blessing and tell others how God has richly blessed us. But think for a minute: do we thank God first, before doing anything else? Do we make offerings for the blessings that God has bestowed on us?

Every day should be a day of Thanksgiving to God because every day He blesses us in immeasurable ways!
