The Leave-taking of the Feast of the Nativity of Christ, Christmas; Our Venerable Mother Melania the Roman (439)

Christ is born! Glorify Him!

The miracle recorded in today’s Gospel is notable in the fact that it is the only healing of Christ recorded in the Gospels that is not instantaneous but rather, it is gradual. Jesus’ first act does not completely cure the man, but it requires a second laying on of hands to fully cure his blindness.

How so very similar is our own spiritual life. We only wish that our divinisation and salvation was instantaneous, but we know that to become like God and to be saved is a life-long process, one that requires of us a constant turning towards God after having turned away from Him through sin.

A common saying in various circles is “Trust the process.” Brothers and sisters, trust the process that is our divinisation and salvation by living every day with Christ.
