Galatians 5:22-6:2; Matthew 11:27-29

The yoke of Christ is light, and yet, it comes to us cruciform. How is the burden of the cross light? The logic of the cross is that we carry it, but not by ourselves; this is the work of the Christian community. In helping with the suffering of others, we have the opportunity to instantiate this Gospel. Bearing each other’s burdens begins with the invocation of “Lord, have mercy” for all those who enter this church. Next time you are at liturgy, imagine someone concrete when you respond to the litany – holding them in your mind as you ask the Lord.
