Read Hebrews 13:7-16

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  We are given an image of this passage from the letter to the Hebrews on the Icon screen. We have three images of Christ in close succession:  The icon of the Mother of God with Christ child shows Jesus as he was yesterday, that is when he entered time 2,000 years ago.  The Icon of Christ on the right of the icon screen gives us a picture of Christ forever, that is in who he is in eternity when he comes as the final and last judge of all things. Where is Christ present? Between the Royal doors the altar space, the Holy table represents Christ, the stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. The altar is the cornerstone and represents the Lord’ the holy table delivers us his Eucharistic presence, which shows the same Jesus Christ, yesterday and forever, present to us today. The Divine Liturgy is our response to Christ’s abiding presence, described at the end of this reading from the Hebrews: let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
