Colossians 1:18-23; Luke 8:22-25
Read Colossians 1:18-23
In today’s epistle St. Paul reflects deeply on the eternal and divine identity of Jesus Christ. To better understand the importance of the ‘head of the body’, ‘the firstborn of the dead’, the one who reconciles to himself all things on heaven and earth by the blood of his cross, we must to read the two previous verses:
“He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him, all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him, all things hold together. (Colossians 1:15-17)
Have I ever thought of Jesus in such deep ways? God is invisible, but only through Jesus does God come to us in a personal human way. For through the Son of God all creation was born into being and all things are held together. It is amazing to contemplate that we, who are but a small speck in the grand and vast universe, belong to the body of the one who created and upholds all that exists. Jesus is our creator, Jesus is our sustainer and Jesus is our redeemer: He is everything for us.
