The Holy Prophet Nahum (7th century BC)
1 Timothy 5:11-21; Luke 17:26-37
Nativity Fast.

Read 1 Timothy 5:11-21

“I charge you…that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing with partiality” (5:21).

My wife and I were recently watching an episode of the series “The Crown” where Prince Philip is telling Queen Elizabeth that they both have a favourite amongst their children and this favouritism is evident in the interactions between parent and the particular child and how they are different from the interactions between the parent and other children.

How aware are we, brothers and sisters, of any prejudice or partiality we may show? It is very easy to treat well those who like us and be dismissive of those who do not like us. While some of our personal relationships may be more cordial than others, we are to show the same Christian love to each and every neighbour of ours equally.

In a world that increasingly shows partiality based on assent to secular values and beliefs, we the members of the Body of Christ are to be an example of Christian love that is impartial and without prejudice. We are called to love as God loves.
