Jesus uses different expressions when describing the after-life. The expression here “new world” is found in the Revised Standard Version. Yet it is translated in different ways in different Bibles: new age (NAB), the renewal of all things (NIV), when everything is made new (CEB). The Douay Rheims Version and the King James Version, old versions, use the word “regeneration.”
The Greek word is paliggenesia (παλιγγενεσία), a compound or double word which is comprised of palin, meaning “again,” and gennēsis, “origin” or “beginning”, so literally a new Genesis or re-creation.
The Book of Revelation speaks of a new heaven and a new earth. Perhaps one of the main reasons we are encouraged not to get too attached to this world, is because a completely other world is being prepared for us.
