Apostles’ Fast. Abstention from meat and foods that contain meat.
Read Matthew 11:20-26
We believe and profess that God is present to us—in His Word, in the Holy Mystery of His Body and Blood (the Eucharist), and in His Church (where He is the Head and we are His body). But do we act and behave that way? We can learn from the mistakes of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, the three towns of Galilee who had the Lord physically present and teaching in their midst and rejected Him. They did not repent at the call to repentance, they did not respond to the call to holiness. We cannot afford to be deaf and dumb to our Lord, we cannot afford to be apathetic to His presence among us. As we often hear in the beautiful liturgical hymnography of our Church, TODAY is the day of salvation. Today is the day that I must embrace repentance in my life. Today is when I submit to the path of the Lord and enter His holiness. Some may object and state that they repented yesterday, or that they plan to repent tomorrow. But yesterday is gone, and tomorrow, while we expect it to come, may not arrive. All we have left is today. Can we miss such a great window of opportunity to partake in the Divine Life?
