Second Sunday after Pentecost, Tone 1; our Venerable Father Bessarion the Wonderworker (457-74); Venerable Hilarion the New (845-46)
Romans 2:10-16; Matthew 4:18-23
Apostles’ Fast.
Read Matthew 4:18-23
They were casting a net into the lake… They were in a boat … preparing their nets. Mt 4:18, 21
Peter and Andrew were casting a net, so they were actually in the act of fishing. James and John are preparing the nets, that is, they are fixing or mending the nets in order to be able to catch fish.
There is a spiritual parallel between fishing and evangelizing. When Jesus sent His apostles, He always sent them in pairs. Why? Maybe so that spiritually one would be mending the net and the other one would be casting the net. The one spiritually mending the net would be the one that would be praying so that the word preached would have power. The other one that would be spiritually casting the net would be casting the word, that is, he would be preaching.
So there’s room for the extrovert and the introvert in evangelization!
