1 Corinthians 16:4-12; Matthew 21:28-32
Read Matthew 21:28-32
How many times am I like the second son? To my family, to my friends, and even to the Lord, how many times have I said ‘yes’ and failed to follow through? Empty promises. I do not want to make them but at times I find myself making them. While I make the promise to a certain action or behaviour, I often forget the one to whom I am making that promise. And when I do this, I make myself more important than the one asking of me. I have to remember that, as a disciple of the Lord, I am to always make others my priority. St. Paul states in his letter to the Ephesians that we must give way to one another out of reverence for Christ:
“Be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, always and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Ephesians 5:18-21)
Lord, help to me always seek the good of the other who is before me. Your Word is sacred. Let my small words be sacred among me and my brothers and sisters. Let me see You in them. Let me serve You by serving them.
