Our Venerable Mother Euphrosyne
1 Corinthians 15:39-45; Luke 4:31-36

Read Luke 4:31-36

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

It is easy (especially if we haven’t read the Old Testament) to shy away from some of the more violent passages of scripture. One of the biggest obstacles to reading the Bible from start of finish is how ugly the story can be, especially at the beginning. But today we come face to face with who Christ is, a Warrior. The demon in this encounter recognises Him immediately, even when those who surround Him miss it. Our Lord is engaged in spiritual warfare; He’s on a rescue mission for this possessed man. He is on a rescue mission for us, the Church.

Let’s use today’s reading as a reminder of who is our true enemy, the evil one and his servants, as well as to remember where is the real battleground, our hearts. In a world of division and confusion, let us not be divided and confused about who really saves and how we are called to fight alongside Him through loving our neighbour and resisting evil!
