Galatians 1:11-19; Luke 7:11-16

Read Luke 7:11-16

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

In the Gospels Jesus resurrects two young people. Many know about Jairus’ daughter, the 12-year old girl that was resurrected from the dead by Jesus. But how many could identify the young man from Nain, son of a widow, as the other young person that Jesus resurrected. It would be a good religious trivia question.

A widow loses her only son. It reminds us of another widow, the Blessed Virgin Mother, who loses her only Son. Jesus, before dying on the Cross, makes sure that His mother will be taken care of. Similarly here Jesus has pity on the widow who is losing the one person that could take care of her. Early in Jesus’ ministry, most of His miracles are done privately to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to Himself. But in this case because of the great need, Jesus makes an exception, takes a risk and does a public miracle. Jesus is a merciful Lord.
