Sunday after the Nativity of Christ Commemoration of the Holy and Righteous Joseph the Betrothed, David the King, and James, Brother of the Lord
Galatians 1:11-19; Matthew 2:13-23

Read Matthew 2:13-23

Christ is born! Glorify Him!

The day after a Feast, we often celebrate the memory of the people that play an important role in that particular Feast. So we remember the Mother of Jesus the day after the Nativity of our Lord and we remember St. Joseph, the legal father of Jesus, the Sunday after the Nativity. So today we remember both of them because today happens to be both the day after the Feast and the Sunday after the Feast.
St Joseph is sometimes called the strong, silent type. He does not say any word in the Gospels and yet he manifests his strong character when he shows resolve and moves decisively when he hears from an angel as to what he must do. Mary can listen to her husband Joseph because he listens to God. Every family can benefit greatly from a father that provides moral support for his wife and his children. They can lean on his support and feel secure in their home.
