Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
The weather forecast tells me that it will rain here on Saturday. Inside my head I say to myself, “I hope that it does not rain as I will be going to the farmer’s market.” This is not really hope. This is wishful thinking. As Christians, we must take care not to be just wishful thinkers, but to be a people of hope.
Hope is necessarily connected to faith. We glean this from this section of Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome. By faith, we are aware that the Lord’s plan for humanity, indeed, for all creation, will one day come to be realised. And it is our hope in the Lord, our confidence, that God keeps and acts on His promises. And we, keeping up our part of that covenant with the Lord, hope with patience knowing that salvation is there, almost in our sight.
So, a Christian may have wishful thinking about the weather, but not so about the fulfilment of the Lord’s plan of our salvation. In that hope, there is a confidence due to our faith.
