The Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ Feast of our Lord.
Holy Day of Obligation.
2 Peter 1:10-19; Matthew 17:1-9

Read 2 Peter 1:10-19

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

What are the things you are most sure of in your life? I’m willing to bet they consist of the things you have experienced, touched with your own hands, and seen with your own eyes. Pope Francis reminds us that witnesses make the best teachers in proclaiming the gospel. Even from an experiential point of view I think we can agree with him- don’t the words of a man or woman who has experienced what he/she is teaching carry more weight with you?

St. Peter today reminds us that “he saw it!” The disciples are not making up stories or tweaking already existing myths, but had an actual encounter with Christ. Peter, James and John saw His glory and heard the Father’s voice and because of this they can confidently transmit the life-saving good news to us.

On this feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord, let us take confidence in the assurance of His Divinity and His coming Kingdom!
