Read Colossians 1:2-6

Christ is born! Glorify Him!

In our reading today, St. Paul greets the Christians in Colossae with encouragement. Although St. Paul never visited Colossae in his journeys, he points to the connection that they share in the gospel: “we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love which you have for all the saints…”

St. Paul today reminds us with this short salutation that the Church is not an “organization among organizations,” Christians aren’t just members of a club or a sect, but members of a body. This body spans space and time and connects us through Communion in such a way that the world, in all its incredible knowledge and technology, will never understand.

Colossae no longer stands and even its location was unknown until very recently. Yet, as Christians the faith of the Church in Colossae affects the spiritual health of the Body of Christ here and now.
Let us remember that we make up a larger organism in our faith and practices- and focus on contributing our faith to the health of the Universal Church!
