Happy feast!
The Synaxis of the Archangel Michael and the Other Bodiless Powers was established at the Council of Laodicea, which took place in the fourth century. The 35th Canon of the Council of Laodicea condemned the worship of angels, but affirmed their proper place in the order of creation and our proper veneration of them.
In order to uphold correct doctrine and teach how to have a healthy and proper relationship with the Angels, a feast day was established for them in the month of November. The feast gives people an opportunity to venerate the Angels, who are servants of the Lord and our heavenly friends. The ninth month was chosen in honour of the nine ranks of Angels—at this time in Roman society the first month of the year was March. The eighth day of the month was chosen for this number represents the day of the Kingdom, recreation and the Final Judgement—on this day the Holy Angels will accompany our Lord as He returns in glory: “the Son of Man shall come in His Glory and all the holy Angels with Him” (Matt. 25:31).
The Angelic Ranks are divided into three Hierarchies: highest, middle, and lowest. The Highest Hierarchy: the Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones. The Middle Angelic Hierarchy: Dominions, Powers, and Authorities. The Lowest Hierarchy: Principalities, Archangels, and Angels.
Holy Archangel Michael and all the Bodiless Powers of Heaven pray to God for us.
