Read Matthew 12:1-8

Here we begin to notice how Jesus starts to reveal His true identity and His awareness of Who He truly is. By stating that He is greater then the temple and Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus is basically putting Himself on par with God. If we have ever wondered whether Jesus might not have been sure of His being the Messiah, these statements basically put that idea to rest. It is absolutely certain that Jesus was fully aware that He truly was God. The temple was the greatest symbol of Israel’s worship of God and so by stating that He is now to become the focal point of worship and not the temple, Jesus is basically saying that He is God. Also, by claiming to be Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus is implying that it was He Who was the author of the Sabbath. Therefore, Jesus is also stating that He is God since everyone knows that it was God Himself Who gave the commandment to Moses to keep the Sabbath Holy. If Jesus as a man was not aware of His identity of also being God, then it would not make any sense for Him to make such claims. Thus we may conclude that Jesus was fully aware of being the eternal God, while appearing as a mere man.
