| The Pharisees were so blinded that they could not see that Jesus casted out demons by the Spirit of God. Instead, they wrongly thought that He did it by the demonic power of Be-el’zebul. Jesus, knowing their thoughts, explained to them how Satan can’t cast out Satan because “no city or house divided against itself will stand” (Mt. 12:25). As Christians, we need to recognize the importance of unity. At the beginning of his letter to the Ephesians, St. Paul writes that God the Father’s will, “as a plan for the fulness of time,” was “to unite all things” in Christ (Eph. 1:10). God seeks that we be united as His adopted sons and daughters through baptism, as brothers and sisters in Christ. Although we are diverse and come from a variety of cultures and traditions, this does not stop us from being united in faith. The Holy Spirit gathers together, but Satan seeks to divide and destroy. |
