The Fore-feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ; The Holy Martyr Eusignius.
Dormition Fast.
Hebrews 3:1-14; Matthew 16:13-18.

Read Matthew 16:13-18

On the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord which we celebrate tomorrow, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up on Mount Tabor and transfigures His appearance before them, revealing His divinity as the Son of God.  A short while before this event, Jesus asked His disciples who they say He is, and Peter had answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Mt. 16:16).  Peter could make this declaration of faith because God the Father had revealed it to him.  On Mount Tabor, Christ Himself would show Peter His divinity.  Although Jesus’ glory was luminously revealed on the mountain, His glory would later be further manifested while He hung on the cross.

Even before seeing Jesus transfigured, risen from the dead, or ascending into heaven, Peter had faith that He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.  Even with such strong faith and having the privilege of seeing Christ transfigured on the mountain, Peter still denied Jesus three times after Jesus was arrested.  Peter’s fear got in the way of his loyalty to Christ.  Today, let us consider what fears we have and if any of them prevent us from fully trusting and following Christ.
