Being distracted by the anxieties of life is a common difficulty we often face. Martha typifies the person who becomes preoccupied with busyness. One of the reasons why a person becomes busy is to overcome the restlessness that person is experiencing in their own heart, but instead of overcoming their restless heart, that person becomes more anxious. Our Lord teaches us that the way to overcome the troubles and worries of life is to still ourselves by sitting and listening to the voice of the Lord speaking to us in the quiet of our heart. On this the feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God we see the perfect example of a person who has spent her whole life pondering the Word of God and who is transferred from a life of busyness to a life of peacefulness and restfulness. May we ponder her example so that we too will move from a life of restlessness to a life of stillness in the Lord.
