2 Corinthians 5:15-21; Mark 1:16-22.
Read Mark 1:16-22
It was common for rabbis in the first century to teach a group of disciples. However, oftentimes potential disciples would seek out a rabbi and only hope to be chosen. Jesus came to Simon and Andrew, James and John who were working as fishermen and asked them to follow Him. What great authority Jesus must have had to do this, and what an honor it would have been for them to be hand-selected by a rabbi to be a disciple!
We too have been hand-selected by God. We have been called not to be slaves but rather sons and daughters of God! We are so loved by God that He does not want us to be held captive by our sins but rather offers us freedom, salvation, and eternal life. He was born into humanity and died on the cross in order to demonstrate His love for us. Like the apostles, are we willing to drop everything that distracts us and set off to become wholehearted disciples of Christ?
