2 Corinthians 11:5-21; Mark 4:1-9.

Read Mark 4:1-9.

If we realize that Jesus is referring to Himself in this parable, the messsage becomes very interesting. Instead of simply telling the crowd what is going to take place as He instructs them, He speaks to them in veiled language. Some will hear His words and will believe for a while but will eventually leave His words behind. Others will simply dismiss His words right from the beginning and speak against Him. While yet others will listen to what He says and will proclaim and pass on His teachings to others who will also hear and believe in Him and these will be numerous and abundant. It is essentially a prophecy about the Church, the body of Christ. We see this parable being fulfilled even to this very day. There are those who hear about Jesus and choose to follow Him for a little while. There are others who reject Jesus almost right from the first. While there are others who learn about Jesus and become His followers for their entire lives. Let us pray that we too will belong to those who hear His words and keep them.
