Are there consequences for rejecting Jesus and His message and if so, what are those consequences? The disciples that were sent out to preach that the kingdom of God is at hand and to cure the sick, were also instructed to shake of the dust from their feet, as a testimony against those who rejected them. Indeed the stakes are high. It seems that we are being warned that the fate of those who dismiss these messengers of God will be worse then the fate of the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah, cities that were destroyed because of their perverseness. What is it that is worse then being destroyed, well, going down to the netherworld. The message is clear there will be eternal consequences for not believing Jesus and accepting His Gospel message. Let us not deceive ourselves by telling ourselves that God is merciful and will save all of us, rather let us understand that there will be a day of judgement and that eternal condemnation is indeed a possibility.
