The theme of faith and obedience is presented to us in this passage. Abram is called by God to leave his land and go to a foreign land. Upon hearing this call Abram shows faith by obeying the Lord, trusting that God will be true to His word. It also took great courage on the part of Abram to make such a journey. Here we also see how the spiritual life is one of movement. God is always calling us to greater trust in Him. Just as Abram had to move from his present situation so too are we called to move from our present situations. Remaining stationary produces stagnation and so we have to be willing to move from our usual routines. Let us take a moment to examine ways in which God may be calling us to change certain areas in our own lives that are keeping us from a more trusting relationship with the Lord.
