Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!
A recently read story… A visitor was being shown around an art gallery by one of the attendants. In that gallery there were certain masterpieces beyond all price, possessions of eternal beauty and unquestioned genius. At the end of the tour, the visitor said: “Well, I don’t think much of your old pictures.” The attendant answered quietly, “Sir, I would remind you that these pictures are no longer on trial, but those who look at them are.”
John’s Gospel presents to us today the wonderful news that Jesus came not to judge those who were against Israel, but to save the whole world (Israel and everyone else). Like the Apostles, when we bring the Good News of salvation to others, when we bring people to encounter the living and risen Messiah, Jesus, and they respond to the wonder and awe and beauty, then they are on the road to salvation. If they see nothing beautiful in that encounter, then they have already been judged.
What is my reaction to the Good News? How is my soul laid bare? Do I find myself in the light?
