Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!

The Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths or Tents) was one of the three pilgrimages that the Jews took to Jerusalem each year. It was a harvest feast which commemorated Israel possessing the Promised Land. It was an ingathering with lots of people and much celebration in song, processions, and light. It was THE place where the followers of Jesus thought He could finally reveal who He was with all of His power (shown in miracles), and with what many considered His revolutionary teachings. They believed that NOW was the time for this revelation to be made. However, we read in the Gospel that Jesus was clear that it was not yet the appointed time for His self-revelation, it was not time for Him to act. He waited on the Father.

How often is it in our life that we demand the Lord to act when and where and how we want it? While our intent may be good (e.g. the end of a war, the healing of one who is ill, passing an exam, etc.), it can be a demand that has its root in selfishness. I am concerned more with my will than that of the Lord’s.

As we continue in the joy of the Resurrection of our Lord, let us submit not only our good intentions to the Lord, but also submit to His timing, to His revealing of His mercy and peace.
