Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
For early Christians, the Second Coming of Jesus—his return and the final manifestation of the victory of Christ over all evil—was longed and prayed for. It was on their minds everyday and especially every Pascha—many gathered together at midnight to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ and anticipate the return of the Bridegroom. Everyday they would even orient themselves toward the east for prayers anticipating his return: “For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man.”
Living daily with the Second Coming of Christ in mind and heart not only keeps Jesus front and centre in my day, but it also creates in me a sense of hope that all things will be renewed in Christ. That all my work oriented towards the building up of the Kingdom of Love will be vindicated and honoured. It makes me a people-centred person for the conversion of hearts and the building up of love is the most important work in my life—starting with my own heart. It helps me live everyday as if it were my last and increases gratitude for all that I have. The Lord of Glory—also known as the Son of man—is coming make your hearts ready.
