Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
Happy Feast of the Transfiguration dear brothers and sisters in Christ!
Last week, our parish had a one week Summer Church Camp. During the week, one of the five icons we focused on was the icon of the Transfiguration. The campers learned how this light of the Transfiguration was so strong that the disciples could not look at Christ as He shone with the Uncreated Light. It was likened to turning on a light at night, which is blinding. This light of Tabor, however, is an infinite number of times more blinding than turning on a bright light at night.
The Taboric light is the light we strive for in living our Christian life as this is the light of heaven, the light of glory, and the light of eternal life. Just as we get used to the bright light of the night the longer our eyes are exposed to it, we strive for becoming accustomed to the Taboric light through our life of prayer. As one priest beautifully summarized this feast in a podcast I recently listened to:
The most important human endeavour is not learning how to use a greater percentage of our brains but learning how to pray.
Themost noble human quest is not for intelligence and long life, but for love, and the glory of God, and life eternal.
That’s the message, brothers and sisters, of the great feast of the Holy Transfiguration
