Sunday of the Holy Forefathers, Tone 4; Our Venerable Father Spiridon the Wonderworker, Bishop of Tremithus (337-61)
Colossians 3:4-11; Luke 14:16-24
Nativity Fast.
Read Luke 14:16-24
Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
But they all alike began to make excuses. (Lk 14:18)
Each one of the guests made excuses why they could not come to the great banquet, but the first and most important reason why they did not attend the banquet was because they were not really interested. There will be a great banquet at the end of time and the host will be the King – Jesus Christ! Are you interested in attending that banquet? You do not need to be double-vaccinated to attend that reception =) But you and I do need to awaken a strong desire to be at that banquet in heaven. To meditate about heaven and then awaken a desire for heaven is a most beneficial spiritual exercise. When one meditates on the last things, one first meditates on one’s death, then on one’s personal judgment, and then we meditate on hell and heaven. – our final destination.
