Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
“A theologian is one who prays, and one who prays is a theologian.” During seminary formation and theological studies, one of my professors would always remind us students that the most important classroom for the study of theology was the chapel. Reading theological texts is important and enlightening but without a regular and deepening prayer life, the study of theology would simply be an exercise in memorizing various facts and information rather than growing in a deeper knowledge of God’s ongoing revelation to the human race. Prayer should always be the foundation of our Christian life. With this life of prayer as a foundation, we can build upwards through an ongoing study of the Scriptures and the Catechism, guided through the wisdom of the Church. Without a foundation of prayer, our study of doctrine will make us those of “dull hearing” and unable to fully comprehend and embrace the “what” and “why” of the Christian life. |
