It is important to remember that the relationship between God the Father and Jesus is that of a father and his son. What is also important to note is that this relationship is also offered to us through the goodness of God. It is the will of God that human beings become children of God. However, when we consider that the Father and the Son are One, we also see that there is a great gulf that separates us from Jesus. Our relationship to the Father is not of the same scale as that of Jesus and the Father. We need to remember that access to the Father is only available through the Son. For us to know the Father we have to begin with knowing the Son. In other words, we can not bypass Jesus and go directly to the Father, because there is an inseparable union that exists between the Father and the Son. Basically, when we address the Father we are also involving the Son and the Holy Spirit, which is the undivided Trinity. May we come to understand more clearly the unity that exists between the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
