Sunday of Meatfare – Sunday of the Fearful Judgement; Our Venerable Father Leo, Bishop of Catania
1 Corinthians 8:8-9:2; Matthew 25:31-46

Read Matthew 25:31-46

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

… he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left.  (Mt 25:33)

The way the final judgement is described it sounds like there will be some serious discrimination. The good people (the sheep) will be separated from the bad people (the goats). Incidentally goats often fight among themselves. There is a clear distinction between good and evil. Only God can judge and He will because He can see our hearts and knows how we lived better than we ourselves know how we lived.

The story of Fr Steven Sheier, a Catholic priest, is a story about Jesus condemning a Catholic priest to Hell. He was in a car accident and was seemingly dead for a while. Here is how he describes his meeting with Jesus:
“I was before the Judgment Seat of Almighty God… Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord [whom I could hear but not see] went through all my unconfessed, unforgiven mortal sins. There was much said in regards to my life. The only thing that I did when I heard about particular instances was internally say, ‘Yes, Yes, that’s true.’ There was no rebuttal. At the end of his speaking, God said, ‘The sentence that you will have for all eternity is Hell.’

After this verdict our Lady interceded for him and Jesus gave Fr Sheier another chance.

This story awoke a healthy fear of God in me and made Hell very real. It is part of a long tradition that during Lent one meditates about Hell and Heaven. Let Fr Sheier help.
Here is an interview of Mother Angelica with Fr Sheier.
