| One of the challenges of the spiritual life is to remain fervent or active in it. There are many practices that we as faithful Christians are expected to do throughout our lives, and it is often the case that maintaining an active faith can become rather challenging. In pointing out the difference between the foolish virgins from the wise virgins, Jesus is also describing the danger of become lax of lukewarm in carrying out one’s Christian duties. This parable acts as a reminder that we are to remain constant and consistent in practicing our Christian faith throughout our lives. The temptation to make compromises can result in a cutting off from the wedding feast, that is, of being admitted into the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, serious efforts are also required to accompany the grace that God gives us to live out our life vocation as Christians. May we be encouraged to not allow fatigue or ease of life to overtake us as we journey to that Kingdom. |
