Today, we honour the feast of The Placing of the Precious Robe of our Most Holy Lady and Mother of God in the Church at Blachernae in Constantinople. Reflecting on our Lord’s words from the cross, “Behold your mother!” it is fitting that we as a Church contemplates the enduring love and protection of the Theotokos. Her robe stands as a testament to her motherly care for each one of her children. In times of distress and temptation, we must remember to turn to Mary, just like children run to there mother.

Picture a mother wrapping a warm blanket around her child, offering comfort and protection from the cold. This tender image capture the essence of Mary’s precious robe. Just as a blanket shields a child, Mary’s robe symbolizes her protective embrace over the Church and each of us. Our liturgical texts describes it as an “incorruptible gift,” a “shelter,” and a “treasure of healings and ever-flowing fountain of wonders.”

In her role as the Mother of God, Mary extends this blanket of divine grace to all who seeks her aid. In moments of personal turmoil or societal crises, we finds refuge in her loving intercession. She stands as our advocate, lifting her hands in prayer to her Son, Jesus Christ, on our behalf. Her precious robe is not merely a physical covering but a spiritual mantle offering solace, healing, and divine assistance.

The Church’s celebration of the feasts of the Mother of God allows us to enter into this protective embrace. Through our hymns, prayers, and liturgical observances, we participate in the joy and grace of the Theotokos. Mary, as the ark of holiness, embodies the fullness of divine grace, carrying within her the Light of the world.

Reflecting on this imagery, let us draws inspiration from Mary’s maternal care. Just as a child finds warmth and safety in a mother’s embrace, we too can find comfort and protection under Mary’s mantle. By seeking her intercession and striving to live lives that reflects her purity and faith, we honour her and deepen our relationship with Christ.

Most Holy Theotokos! Save us!
