The Synaxis of the Holy, Glorious and All-Praiseworthy Twelve Apostles
1 Corinthians 4:9-16; Mark 3:13-19
Polyeleos Feast.

Read 1 Corinthians 4:9-16

In the time that Christ spent teaching His apostles, He never promised that being an apostle would be an easy vocation. Following Christ meant enduring many of the things he had to endure: ridicule, hatred, and even death.

Being an apostle means living a life that aspires to holiness. To become holy, one must set aside many things of the world that may bring temporal glory or honour but that would move us farther away from holiness and eternal life together with God.

We must always remember that temporal glory or honour are fleeting; they will not endure like eternal life. The ridicule and hatred we may face as Christ’s apostles will also not endure. Rather, our steadfastness to the mission of Christ’s Gospel, amidst ridicule and hatred, is our path to holiness and eternal life. Nothing in this world is as important or precious as eternal life with God in Heaven.
