The Holy Martyr Codratus and Those with Him (249-51)
Great Fast Day 16.
Read
Proverbs 8:32-9:11
Yesterday, our reflection on the reading from Proverbs was “The Prayer of the Servant of God Metropolitan Andrew for Divine Wisdom.” This prayer is a beautiful supplication to our Lord for wisdom in the various areas of our life. We should always ask the Lord for wisdom in our lives and for particular situations that require discernment before making a decision.
Today’s reading, however, tells us one very important thing: before we can acquire wisdom, we must have the fear of the Lord. This fear is awe and wonder that we are to have for our Lord; a fear that is manifested in how we interact with and understand God.
We can not acquire the wisdom that we desire and that the Lord desires to bestow on is if we first do not have fear of the Lord. Wonder and awe in prayer, worship, the reception of the sacramental mysteries, and in our daily Christian life are what we need for Divine Wisdom to be given to us. During this Lenten Fast, pray for the gift of the Holy Spirit that is the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2).
