Great Fast Day 13

Mark 1:35-44; John 5:24-30

Jesus had great success in bringing the Good News to those in Galilee and the surrounding area. Not only had He called His disciples, but many others had also responded to His teachings. Simon Peter’s mother-in-law had been raised from her sickbed, and He had just cured many others with a variety of illnesses. Having become very tired, He rested. In the morning, instead of arising and walking among those who had gathered to hear Him or to be cured by His touch or even His gaze, He sought a place to be alone in order to pray. It was such a hidden place that a search party had been formed to find Him!

When we have been successful in our work either at home, at play, or at work, what do we do? When we become popular among many, do we seek applause and accolades from others? We have an incredibly meek example from our Lord. Let us seek some solitude and offer thanksgiving for the works that are done through us and recognise the smile of His mercy and grace upon us. When our days are full and busy, like Jesus, let’s make time for time with God.
