Read Acts 13:13-24
Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!
In reading the Acts of the Apostles, we witness the spread of the Christian faith in apostolic times. We see the dedication of the apostles and their work in passing on the Gospel of Jesus Christ among many peoples.
It is fascinating to see as well how the preaching of the apostles differs from place to place, depending very much on whether they were preaching to Jews or Gentiles. Paul, in today’s reading, is preaching to a Jewish Church in Antioch of Pisidia. In order to bring them the Good News, Paul shows how Christ is the fulfilment of all the Old Testament prophecies. These Jews are able to better understand the Good News of Jesus Christ through the lens of the Old Testament prophecies.
The work of the Church is singular: to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. How this is to be accomplished, however, differs depending on individual and particular circumstances. As members of the Body of Christ and members of a parish community, we are called to discern in and with our parish community how the work of the Church should be fulfilled where our parish serves and lives.
