Fifth Sunday after Pascha. Sunday of the Samaritan Woman, Octoechos, Tone 4; The Holy Priest-Martyr Patrick, Bishop of Prussa, and Those with Him (361- 63)

Read
Acts 11:19-26, 29-30; John 4:5-42

Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!

The Lord approaches asks something of us quite simple like a drink of water. Our reaction might be like that of this Samaritan woman of whom we hear in today’s Gospel. She is surprised that a Jew would speak to a Samaritan and that there is a religious divide between them. We, too, can play the separateness card when the Lord approaches us. We may tell Him that He is in heaven and we are on earth and that the usual time for talking at all should be on Sundays.

The Lord often approaches each of us in times that are unexpected, and often in a little voice. If we but stay, recognize His presence, converse with Him, and accept the water He has to offer we would be like the Samaritan woman. Each of us would see our life as it is, the truth of our life, and the Life that He has to offer us—His very own!

Yesterday, we learned about continuing in the Word of God. Today, we see it played out in the Samaritan woman.
