The Holy Apostles Erastus, Olympus, Rodion and those with them
1 Thessalonians 3:9-13; Luke 11:34-41

Read 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13

Break for Jesus is an annual catechetical camp in the Eparchy of Toronto during March Break. In the early years, beginning with year 1 in 1998, the first night of the camp (Sunday) would include very interesting and engaging activities with a man named Rex Barger. One of the songs he taught us campers had the following refrain: “Love is something that if you give it away, you end up having more.”

Love is the essence of what it means to be a Christian. God created us with love and His love for us is immeasurable. Love is the foundation of our interpersonal relationships as we are called to love everyone, both those who love us and those who hate us.

St. Paul calls on the Thessalonians to love one another to the same measure that he has loved them. This love is indispensable if we desire holiness for our lives. This love is necessary if we want the Body of Christ to grow and multiply. The love we show others grows and multiplies and is reciprocated to us by those who have experienced the love of God and the love of their brother or sister in Christ.
