Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
In the Parable of the Samaritan, one could say that the least likely person helps his Jewish neighbour. One who is seen as an enemy is the one who helps. We may recall how the Samaritan woman in John’s gospel greeted Jesus by reminding Him that Jews and Samaritans do not talk to one another.
In our day there seems to be this prevalent trend in our society called cancel culture. Cancel culture means ignoring the person or group of persons that you do not agree with. They are either ignored or described as stupid – in both cases one considers them to be irrelevant. One excludes (“cancels”) them from one’s life. The issue of vaccination has become such a divisive issue in our society in which one will often find one person completely dismiss the views of the other side.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan encourages us to see the other person and not ignore them even if they are not our political allies.
