Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
Have you ever played the “telephone game?” You know, the one where a message gets passed down from one person to another until the last person says what they were told. Then the first person says what they actual said and often it becomes clear that the message was changed along the way for the sake of a good laugh.
Our gospel lesson however is no laughing matter! Our Lord tells us today that His Apostle’s message isn’t their own but His, and that His isn’t even His own but His Father’s. In other words, the gospel that we preach can put people in touch with the Maker and Master of the universe. For this reason, it is imperative that we remain faithful to what we have been given. What is at stake is not a chuckle or a reputation, but the safe-saving gospel which extends to eternity with the Lord, or without Him!
