Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!
Have you ever taken a seat in a massive stadium or arena and just felt awed by it’s magnitude? There are some buildings that quite honestly take one’s breath away. Herod’s Temple would have been a prime example of this type of building. In fact, in many ways, Jerusalem would have been described as a Temple that had a city and not vise versa.
Imagine how the Jewish leaders must have felt when Our Lord, being asked for a sign after driving out the animals and money changers, tells them that if they destroyed the temple He could rebuild it in three days! Of course, as the Gospel says, He was making reference to the Temple of His Body, but don’t we sometime forget this though?
We truly are the Temples of the Holy Spirit. There was one temple for the Jews in Jerusalem, and it served to render people ritually clean. There are churches now in many cities, sometimes multiple churches. But those temples exist only to make this temple, the temple of our bodies, holy, and filled with the Holy Spirit. Through receiving the Body of Christ in the Eucharist, we become the Body of Christ- living temples for His glory! Throughout this joyous season do your best to drive out anything which detracts from the purpose of your temple, the worship of our Risen Lord!
