1 Corinthians 11:31-12:6; Matthew 18:1-11

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

In every professional sport, there is a debate about who is the G.O.A.T. – Greatest of All Time. Is Tom Brady the GOAT of professional football? How about basketball: LeBron or Jordan? In hockey, is it Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr or Howe? These debates rage on year after year, with new players establishing themselves on the list in their respective sports.

The disciples too had their debate about who is the G.O.A.T. as is evident in today’s Gospel reading. Unlike in the sporting world, this debate is quickly put to rest by Christ who quickly and succinctly outlines what it takes to become the G.O.A.T.

To become the greatest, we must become like humble, innocent children. We must realize that we are always dependant on our heavenly Father, just as children are always dependant on their parents. We must embrace childlike love for others and a child’s forgiving disposition. To become the G.O.A.T., we must embrace that we are now and forever children of God, our Father on whom we depend on day after day.
