The Holy Martyr Eupsichius (360-63)

Read
Acts 3:19-26; John 2:1-11

Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!

The Gospel of John is unique in many ways and one of these ways relates to the various miraculous works done by Christ that are referred to as signs in this Gospel. As the evangelist tells us, this sign of the changing of water into wine at the wedding in Cana of Galilee is the first of the signs that Jesus did to manifest His glory.

These signs worked by Christ point beyond the simply miraculous and direct our minds to the fact that the Kingdom of God is here and now, among us in the person of Jesus Christ. During this past week, known as Bright Week, the Kingdom of God was much more visible to us with all the doors of the iconostas being left open so that we could behold not only the beauty of the sanctuary in our Churches but also the glory of the Kingdom of God which the sanctuary represents.

Having beheld the glory of the Kingdom of God this past week, both in the splendour of the liturgical services of Pascha and Bright Week and in the visible openness of the Kingdom seen in the iconostas, may we strive to make that Kingdom, which is our eternal home, more present among in this world of ours which yearns for and needs the presence of Christ in its midst.
